Solo Exhibition by Artist Thomas Lamprecht
La Jolla, CA, July 31 2017 – ADGY Art is pleased to present ‘Landscapes’ a solo exhibition by celebrated La Jolla-based artist Thomas Lamprecht. Opening on Friday, August 18th from 5-8pm at Adgy Art located at 7863 Girard Ave, Suite 102, La Jolla, CA 92037.
ADGY Art is debuting with the opening of ‘Landscapes’ a solo exhibition by artist Thomas Lamprecht. Lamprecht’s work in this show explores the notion of landscapes and uses superimposed linear interpretations of classical imagery, like Leonardo’s drawing or Nike Samothrace, to create a narrative on the dichotomy of life’s truths.
“We live in the world comprised of and described by the opposites. The good and bad, the life and death, the right and wrong, the pure and corrupt are all a part of one, two-sided coin that is the currency of truth. All those polarities, however divergent, are necessary elements of defining a complete whole, an accurate account of the nature of existence. In a visual language this juxtaposition of elements extends itself to the preposition that any image driven artwork comprises of top and bottom—“sky” and “ground.” This applies not only to an image of a landscape but, equally, to all other visual representations including still life, figurative, portraiture, abstraction, etc.” –Thomas Lamprecht.
Thomas Lamprecht born in Warsaw, Poland is an artist, writer and musician. He spent his formative years
at the boarding school in Edinburgh, Scotland and lived intermittently in London, Warsaw and Famagusta, Cyprus.
Lamprecht began to study painting in 1969 at the Warsaw’s Academy of Fine Arts under the wing of professor Aleksander Kobzdej. After moving to New York in 1973 he studied at the School of Visual Arts with several prominent New York artists including Joseph Kosuth, Sol Lewitt, Larry Zax and others. He graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in 1976. That same year he started his graduate studies at the Columbia University, Graduate School of the Arts in New York where he received his Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree in 1978. Lamprecht continued his post-graduate studies at Columbia completing his PhD candidacy in philosophy.
Primarily a painter, his art has been shown in major venues throughout the United States and Europe, including Kunsthalle, Basel, Switzerland and New York’s Carnegie Hall and 112 Green Street Gallery.
When asked about his latest works, Lamprecht describes them as, “influenced by the southern coast, its air, light and space. The images described over them intercept this and violate it while introducing a narration, a story.” ‘Landscapes’ will be on view through Sunday, September 3rd.
